The United Convention on Contracts for the international Sale of Goods is a rule set that the SMEs manager should bear in mind for each business that he make with an exporter.  Is not just the convention, if not, an international jurisprudence that your business must have to consideration.

The first obligation that SMEs’ manager has, when he bought some products, is examine the goods (shoes, wines…etc.) as soon as possible. If you detected any defects, you should take pictures, and if you can, take a video.
You should send an email describing the defects of the goods to seller and ask him an explication and a change of goods or a refund.
